Industry Advisory Board
We are extremely proud of our Industry Advisory Board, which consists of leading professionals including Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh, Oscar award-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan, Lighting Director Patrick Woodroffe OBE and alumni Mathew Baynton and Rosalie Craig.
The group help inform and inspire the institution’s future, with the focus of increasing graduate employability, affirming the currency of training and course delivery, and the long-term aspirations and direction of the College.
Alumni Rosalie Craig, Mathew Baynton, Sadeysa Greenaway-Bailey, Kane Husbands, Greg Hicks and Darren Joyce are all members of the board.
Networking opportunities
Our design and production arts students meet industry at our annual Face to Face event. This is your opportunity to present your work, meet influential figures in the sector and to discuss your ideas with them. Each year, students receive direct job offers and/or representation through networking at these events. They are one of many opportunities to showcase your work – whichever discipline is your area of expertise.
Our London Season presents a series of plays staged in prestigious theatres across the capital. Many of our final year BA students collaborate to produce and perform in these plays as we take residency over a 4 week period. These events are also a chance to stay connected with our alumni and industry professionals who return to support graduating cohorts.
Placements
If your passions lie within the technical arts, you should consider a work placement opportunity. We can support you to find a suitable industry organisation for a substantial block of work – allowing you to gain the valuable experience of working with industry in real-life situations before you even graduate.
We have connections with specialists in live events, music, TV, Film and theatre, and you could get valuable experience with
- Lighting
- Sound
- Wardrobe
- Stage Management
- Scenics
- Mo-Cap
Each of our performance-based courses has employability weaved into the curriculum in a way that works for our students. Our Theatre and Social Change course offer you the chance to work in the heart of a community during two work placements, and make a positive impact using theatre and creativity.
Agent showcases
Our Acting and Actor Musicianship courses include a Professional Preparation module that will see you take part in a range of individual mock auditions, which are as near identical to the real things as you can get.
You’ll be auditioning in front of leading theatre producers and casting directors who are actively working in the industry for companies like BBC, ITV and Netflix.
Performance spaces
Our Barn Theatre is where Rose Bruford herself taught students to recite poetry back in the 1950s. The Barn offers all students the opportunity of working in a traditional proscenium arch theatre setting with lighting rigs and a sound desk to match.
Our Rose Theatre is a 320 seater auditorium in the round. This allows scope for students on all courses to apply their skills and knowledge to a theatre space with a more modern flavour. Multi-levelled seating and a high and wide performance area give us the chance to accommodate incredible displays and events run by our Lighting and Sound students.
The Dome is an outdoor performance space constructed as part of a research project by Scenic Arts students. A stage was added in 2018, and in 2020, it was updated and refurbished to offer a high-end outdoor performance space for students to work in.
