The twelve-time Oscar nominated Costume Designer, who was awarded her honorary fellowship by the college in 2011, discussed her career journey and creative process in designing some of the most iconic film costumes of recent decades.
Principal Professor Mary Oliver remarked that:
“It was wonderful to welcome Jenny back to campus for this live Q&A with our students. She has been a long-time supporter of the college and our graduates, before and after becoming an honorary fellow back in 2011.
It was a pleasure to celebrate her incredible work and career, and for our students to receive so much wisdom and inspiration from this iconic figure in the UK screen industry.”
Beavan is one of the most celebrated Costume Designers of our time, winning three Academy Awards and four BAFTAs for A Room With A View, Gosford Park, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Cruella. She also received a TONY Award nomination for Best Costume Design for the play Private Lives.
Last year Jenny joined the college’s newly formed Industry Advisory Board, alongside Adjoa Andoh, Mathew Baynton, Stella Kanu and Sue Lyster.
Jenny recently returned to the UK after completing work in Australia on the highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiousa, starring Anya Taylor-Joy. The film reunites Beavan with director George Miller after almost a decade.
Her next film to hit screens will be White Bird, with Gillian Anderson and Dame Helen Mirren.
